Office 2007

I am trying out the Trial version of Office 2007 and just love it (so far).
But.....when I send an e-mail with a 2007 Word/Excel attachment to someone
who has only the 1997-2003 version of this software they are not able to open
my attachment..Does this mean that I have to convert the document from the
2007 version to the 1997 - 2003 version before I can send the attachment?

I hope not. That will be a major factor in my decision whether to buy the
software.

Thanks for your reply

In order for those not using Office 2007 to open files created in the new
version they either need to have the Compatibility Pack installed or you
need to save the files in the 97-2003 version. I'm not sure why this is a
major factor since you can set this format as your default Save type. To do
so, click the Office Button\Word Options and you'll see the "Save files in
this format" option.

There are [at least] three options:

1. Save as in Word 97-2003 format when you want to share a document with a
Word 2003 user.

2. Tell Word to automatically default to that format if you'll be sharing a
lot with Word 2003 users (Office button, Word Options, Save tab, "Save files
in this format:" option.

3. Twist your correspondents' arms and convince them to download and install
the free Office 2007 compatibility pack:

Thanks Beth,,Much appreciate it...Does this mean that I will have to convert
the present files to the 1997-2003 format or will it automatically do it when
I open a file to add an entry and then save it? Another question when I buy
this program can I still retain the 1997-2003 version on my PC

If you open a file created in a previous version, modify it, and the save it
the original file format will be maintained. You don't need to do anything
special. What the Save option I mention will do is default to the 97-2003
file format when using Save As. You can always change the "Save As Type"
when saving a file but the default makes it easy so you don't need to
remember to change it. :)

As for retaining a previous version after installing Office 2007, legally it
depends on whether it's an upgrade or a full version. If an upgrade then
license states it should be uninstalled. However I know many users keep it
installed during the learning process since the upgrade installation doesn't
force the previous version be uninstalled.
