Office 2008 12.1.1 Update Issues

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I'm trying to go from version 12.1.0 to 12.1.1
I've downloaded the software from Microsoft, but when I try to install it I get : You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.1 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.

I have MS Office 2008 Student version.
Any ideas? Thanks, Steve

I was having a number of issues and had to reinstall Office 2008 a couple of days ago. I now have a functional copy of version 12.0.0 on my 2.16 Ghz Intel MacBook Pro (OS 10.4.11), but when I try to update to any version – 12.0.1, 12.1.0 or 12.1.1, I get the same message noted above, "A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume." Autoupdate tells me that there are no new updates available for my software.

I even reinstalled twice, carefully following the directions posted at <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/install_update.html#fails1> with the same end result. I have not renamed Microsoft products or folders in my Applications folder. I have repaired permissions, etc.

Still no luck. I really need to get updated to at least 12.0.0 to access my previous Entourage database. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I was having a number of issues and had to reinstall Office 2008 a couple of

Autoupdate tells me that there are no new updates available for my software.

This indicates that the AutoUpdate was not updated. Check the version of
AutoUpdate:

Yourstartupdrive/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/Microsoft
AutoUpdate 2.2.0

Download directly and update the AutoUpdate first.

It's a bit confusing. The updater is named 1211, but it should update to
2.2.0.

Once you get AutoUpdate updated, you should be able to download the SP1
updater and the 12.1.1 update. You do not need the 12.0.1 as it's included
in SP1.
I even reinstalled twice, carefully following the directions posted at

Did you do the re-install listed when you have modified files? Even though
you say you have not modified Office, have you modified any system files?
Have you run anything like monolingual, Safari Fix, Xslimmer?

Diane- Thank you for the help. I wound up removing Office 2008 from my computer, then reinstalling it. All updates worked.

Diane,
The link (http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/4/6/2467bf07-e602-4a14-ad80-3fe90a) took me to a "file not found" page. However, as you suggested, the problem did lie with the MAU. I did track down a newer version than I had installed (2.1.1) and ran that. I was then able to download and install the SP1 (12.1.0), followed by the 12.1.1 updater.

Everything seems to be working properly now, although I still need to try and access my old Entourage e-mail database.

Any idea where to download the MAU 2.2.0? Thanks so much for your help.

Try something for me Scott, please...

In one of the Office apps go to Help> Check for Updates, then go to
Microsoft AutoUpdate> About AutoUpdate & let me know what version number is
displayed there.

If the updater worked, I suspect it is updated. Get the version as Bob
described or view in the Finder.

Is your old database Entourage 2008 or a previous version? If it's a 2008
Identity then Entourage will upgrade it when you open. If it's a previous
version, Entourage will ask you if you want to import. Say yes and navigate
to the Identity.

You can have more than one version Identity folder the the Microsoft User
Data folder : e.g.

Office X Identities
Office 2004 Identities
Office 2008 Identities

Each Identity folder can have multiple Identities.

Ok lets make this CLEAR

I've been looking for autoupdate 2.2.0 everywhere. Is this really the last version?

If so, is it possible to give a CLEAR and readeable LINK!

Like so many before, I have been having the same problem.

CyberTaz and Diane, thank you for the help so far.

In my case, I have not re-named any Office stuff, and the Office 2008 folder is in my Applications folder. I have repaired permissions. I checked my AutoUpdater and it is 2.2.0, so what else should I do? Unfortunately, I cannot uninstall and re-install Office for a while as I am overseas for work and the disks are back home in California.

Any suggestions?
