Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Just reinstalled office 2008. Latest update from microsoft prevented excel from opening. When I open excel get a message there is a problem with the data base and instructs me to the office data base utility which I did. Tell me to help but there is none. Ran rebuild on data base but verification aftewards said data base was bad, ran rebuild but still have same problem.

Have you applied all of the updates to Office since you re-installed it?

Did you use the Remove Office tool before you re-installed it?

I wish people would stop "re-installing" things on a Mac: it usually leads
to these kinds of problems, and almost never cures whatever the original
problem was, because the files that get re-installed are not the files that
cause problems :)

In your case, I suspect the problem is that you have not applied the
updates, so none of the Microsoft Office applications can READ the database,
since it is in the "New" format. If you apply the updates, Office will
again be able to read the database.

The other alternative would be to re-name the database so Office creates a
new one. Be careful: It contains ALL your email and contacts if you are
using Entourage.

Hope this helps
