I have been having the same problem for the last few weeks. This is very irritating having purchased an expensive application and not have the updater recognize that the freaking software has been installed right in front of it's nose... I see this issue reported all over without a ms fix. I have reinstalled 2008 and the same things keeps happening, WHY CAN:T the Updater see the installation.

Hi;

I tried the first link you kindly sent:

My Office was modified because I used a tool to remove extra languages and free up space from my hard drive. So I cannot update and in order to do it I would have to uninstall and then reinstall everything and it just gets complicated.

I guess I will stay without this update. My Office is running Ok...

Just pitty that with Microsoft there is never an easy way :(

Thanks anyway!

@ Manual.

I agree with you. Same here. Also removed extra languages. Why is it that this is never an issue with mac programs and with Microsft it is. C'mon Microsoft, you can do better!

At some point you're going to miss an important update. It's not that hard
to drag to the trash, delete and reinstall. There are only two updaters
needed. If you have one of the newer DVDs you only need one.

Don't bother asking for support if you aren't going to upgrade. Our first
suggestion is going to be upgrade because that might just fix your problem.

First, please keep in mind that these newsgroups are peer-to-peer. There
isn't much we can do. The best way is to send feedback to Microsoft .

When working in Office, you can use the ³Send Feedback² option under the
Help menu in all of the Office applications.

You're not speaking to Microsoft here. This newsgroup is a peer-to-peer
newsgroup where Entourage users help other Entourage users.

Keep in mind that Microsoft never intended their software to be modified
after installation except by their own installers. They have provided
the ability to not include extra languages during installation of Office
and that is their method that they support.

If you change something that prevents the Office updaters from working
then that's your problem to fix, not Microsoft's. Once you modify their
software then they can not possibly know what you've done. If their
updaters find something other than what they expect then the safest way
to proceed is to assume something is wrong, do nothing and wait for you
to put things back.

Apparently if you have used a utility to strip out languages, this can mess up Office 2008.

I, for example, used a utility called Drive Genius 2 to strip out not only languages but also the Power PC architecture. This is otherwise written as PPC by the mac community.

If you've stripped the PPC architecture from your Intel mac, other applications should be left unaffected. Microsoft, on the other hand, always has to be different.
