Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I've installed the 2008 edition, everything "looks" fine. the icons are on my dock, they start to load and then just hang at the opening graphic and go no further. i have to force quit.

i've removed all my fonts from their folders and run font nuke (because i have tons of fonts) and have installed, re-installed, deleted the Microsoft User Data but still the result is the same.

What could possibly be the problem?

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

If it works in the new User, then there is a problem in your User's account.

BTW, do you use Suitcase? Disable global auto font activation from within
Suitcase. Easy way to test if Suitcase is part of the problem: Simply quit
Suitcase and test launch.

Let me know what your test shows in the new User.

-----Some basic terms-----------
Let's first be clear about the terms User, Identity and Account.

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences,
account settings.

A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity and User are often
confused. Creating a new User in System Preferences is a good way to test in
a clean environment.

Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft
User Data folder. Creating a new Identity is a good way to test your
database to see if corruption is the problem.

Each identity can have (almost) any number of accounts. Each account is
associated with a distinct email address than can be used to send and/or
receive mail, but all mail is stored in the same database, all calendar
events are common to all the accounts, all notes & contacts are shared.

You can have multiple accounts in Entourage. Examples: POP, IMAP, Hotmail,
Gmail, AOL, Exchange, news accounts.

I set up a new user and Word opened no problem!

I use Font Agent Pro - in both areas.

So what is wrong in my usual user account?
