Office 2008 (Standard) Installer won't run

After inserting the installation dvd (closing other apps/admin user/etc) double clicking on the installer causes the installation application to open then immediately close on an iMac 2.4GHz running leopard 10.5.1 (9B18). No actual application window appears, only the dock icon appears briefly. I didn't see any new process appear in Activity Viewer, but it may be been quicker then the refresh rate.

It opens and runs on my powerbook G4 running 10.4 so I know the disk itself works, what I'm trying to pinpoint is if the problem is with my computer specifically (ie the apple installer app malfunctioning) or the current system configurations.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems or know of a solution?

Thanks,

Brian

Are you trying to install this in a non-admin account? It was confusing in
the way you said you closed above.

Try the DVD in a new User. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in
Accounts with admin privileges. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or
use Fast User Switching. Try the installer there.

Yes, it's an admin account and all other programs are closed. Basically, I've tried the all the usual fixes I found.

In addition I've tried repairing the disk permissions and installing under a
brand new administrator user on the computer with no luck.

It's a bit of a PITA, but in that case I'd do an archive and
install/update of the OS.
