Office 2008 via Amazon

I ordered Office 2008 yesterday at Amazon. It says that the product is in stock, but won't be shipped until January 25. When I checked other vendors, it seems to be a similar issue. Why is it not available for immediate shipping, since it was released yesterday? Is there a vendor that can deliver it right away?

Thanks.

Depending on where you're situated, you might want to try the local
Apple Store.

I don't *know* this to be the case here - nor do I speak for MS marketing -
but there is typically a delay in some distribution channels any time a
"release date sensitive" product is shipped. Retailers & etailers have
brought this on themselves because if the product is in their hands prior to
the actual release date many of them will go ahead start handing it over to
the buyer. Many companies have a policy of advance shipping only to key
accounts which they are confident will comply. Everyone else has to wait a
bit longer for the product to arrive, so by the time they receive the
product & turn it around it may take the 10 day delay you're being quoted.
Often it isn't that long - they're just allowing themselves some leeway:)

A number of other factors that could influence availability as well.

I wouldn't buy from Amazon on a bet, so I don't know what's going on
with them, except that in the past I've had bad experiences with their
stock-keeping system.

You'd have to ask Amazon - there's no reason to think that anyone
posting here would know...

I'm at MacWorld this week, and both Best Buy and eunitek are selling
copies on the floor, and the Apple store up the street has copies.

MacMall's status is "Usually Ships Same Day" for H&S edition.

Chances are, that vendor is doing "Drop shipping" so they do not have to
warehouse the product :)

The product IS "in stock" ‹ at Microsoft! The delay is for Amazon to pass
your details to Microsoft, and for Microsoft to send your order to their
warehousing vendor, and for the warehousing vendor to send it to you.

The lower the price, the more likely the vendor is to be not holding
physical stock, and the more likely "in stock" means "but in someone else's
warehouse".

I hate Marketing :)

Cheers

I order mine from Amazon on Wed & it was delivered on Thu. That it shipped from a Dallas location & I live in Richardson no doubt helped.
