Office 2008 Word problem

My new Office 2008 only opens new Word docs (command+N) with a 3 inch by 3 inch page.

Why? How can I get the page to be standardized 7.5 by 11 inches? The "inches" bar at page top is only 4 inches across. Likewise with the vertical bar.

None of the formatting tools (EDIT, VIEW, FORMAT, TOOLS) are working toward solving this. They only deal with page parameters that lie "within" the new page and do not allow me to change the size of the document.

Questions:
-Why did Office 2008 give me this 3x3 as a default new doc?
-How can I get back to a normal sized document?

Thanks,

Rich

I don't know why you are getting the little default.

First try resizing the active windows--in the lower right corner, there
are some diagonal lines. Click there and drag to resize. Word *should*
noticed you've resized and open the next ones in the same size.

If Word doesn't start using the new size, try to force it to by doing this:
Use File | Open to open your Normal template at
[username]/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User
Templates/Normal.dotm. Make sure to use File | Open from within Word.

Set the desired size (and view? and zoom?) you want documents to be.
Type a space and then delete it--the point of this is to make sure Word
thinks there is a change that needs to be saved, without actually
leaving text in Normal.

Save and close. All new documents created henceforth should use those
view settings. (this will NOT affect documents that other people send
you--those need to be changed one-by-one, as they carry the settings
from their creator).
