Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel With Office 2010 arriving soon, I was wondering whether my Office 2008 will have problems reading files created by my Windows colleagues.

Nobody can responsibly give you an absolute Yea or Nay.

The file formats are the same as are the fundamental features. However,
there will continue to be differences between the Windows & Mac apps. That
is nothing new nor should it come as a surprise to anyone [although it does
seem to :)]. Some of those differences are OS-related & may never change.

In order to maximize what many construe as "compatibility" those differences
need to be taken into consideration when creating documents on either
platform if those documents are destined to appear at some point on another
computer or in different version of Office - even using the same OS.

My perception is that the major changes in Office 2010 have more to do UI,
customizability, etc. rather than radical feature modifications. That of
course varies depending on the individual app... PPT & Excel 2007 already
have significant new features not included in their 2008 counterparts. The
net-net is that [IMHO] there will not be a significant widening of the gap
although it certainly won't get narrower until the release of 2011 for Mac.
