I have completed an Office 2000 SR1a administrative
installation on a network share, and have applied the full
file SP3 for the main components.
Unfortunately i am unable to update the 'Access Runtime
Files' to SP3 using ARTSP3ff.msp.
I have tried using the command line to update the admin
install but i get the error message:

'The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows
installer service because the program to be upgraded may
be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different
version of the program. Verify that theprogram to be
upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the
correct upgrade patch'

Is this updated when the main components are updated, or
am i doing something completely wrong??

I got that message as well. Then I read that it is a patch that needs to go
on the client machines.
Can you tell me how you created your SP3 admin install. I have tried / am
trying to set one up but when trying to run office update after client
installation I am told that SP3 needs to be installed but that the
administrative / full file version is needed.
I am lost , there are also post sp3 patches that wont install as they
require SP3. when i do Help - About it says SP3.

Have you tried officeupdate yet and if so does it work for you?

Chris,

To install the security updates you will need to use the
full file updates from:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/updates/97_2000/default
..htm
and extract them to the admin install the same way as SP3.
If you run Baseline Security Analyzer on a client machine,
it will list which updates are required. Unfortunately i
am getting the same problem where it is still telling me
SP3 need to be installed, although each office program is
listed as SP3 it help/about. Maybe Baseline and Office
update can't verify that its installed because it wasn't
installed locally on each client machine?

Thanks for the advice on Access Runtime Files SP3, is
there another patch i need to download or can the clients
be updated using the ARTSP3ff.msp file?

Thanks for this information. I thought there was something wrong in what I
was doing.
As far as I am aware the clients can be updated using the ARTSP3ff.msp patch
file.
I haven't done it as only new client installs have been done from the
Administrative image.
