Office 2k SP3 and Product Updates error

R

Robin Stauble

I've updated my Office 2000 SR-1 administrative point on
the network to SP3(using administrative update version),
but when I go to Office 2000 Product Updates,it tells me
that Office 2000 SP3 is still required with the
error: "You need the administrative version of this update
due to previously applied administrative updates."
-When I try and install SP3(through the MS Download
Center), it says its already installed.
-In About->Help, it says SP3 installed
-On some computers, Product Updates detects SP3 correctly.
-I've reinstalled the administrative point several times.
-I've tried Eraser2000 and ORK-2k and XP Removal Wizard.

Any suggestions?

Hi Robin,

If you've recached the clients from an updated
Office Admin point rather than updating the
clients separately then the client only Product
update site may not support direct updating/detection.
Check the Update detection section of the
Product Updates FAQ page
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates/faq.aspx

In this case it would probably be FAQ 13
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates/faq.aspx#thirteen

Thank you very much for the quick reply, Mr. Buckland.

The Product Updates FAQ explains what the error means, but
it doesn't explain why on some computers it detects SP3
installed(not shown on list), and others as needing SP3
administrative version still??
-I've also tried installing o2k SR-1/SP3 on a new W2k
install, but Product Updates gave same error about still
needing SP3(from administrative install).
-Do I maybe have to install all 3 .MSP files that come
with the administrative version of SP3, not just
MAINSP3FF.MSP?
