Office 2k sp3 & Office2002 Sp1 installed together causing problems

I have a dell computer with 2 versions of office (Office
2k sp3 & Office2002 Sp1) installed over each other. One
copy is interfering with the other and I am getting random
errors and program performance is difficult at best. When
I use the add/remove in control panel I get an error. If I
try to repair it calls for the cd read it then gives
another error. I would like to remove both copies and
start over.

The exact error message is
"This patch could not be opened verify that the patch
package exists and that you can access it, or contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows
installer patch package".

I was successful in removing Office2002 Sp1 and when I
attempted to remove Office 2k sp3 I got the above message.
During the period that I had only Office 2k sp3 on the
system I attempted to launch the different programs (word,
excel, PowerPoint, and outlook). Outlook and Word caused
an additional error. Outlook first stated that it would
have to rebuild the shortcuts after acknowledging the
message (either yes or no) outlook failed the error
message that came up was "Operation failed". When Word
was launched the error message was "an error occurred and
this feature is no longer functioning properly please run
setup and select repair to resolve this application".
After attempting the repair I got the error message
starting with "this patch could not be opened..." again.
