Office 2k3 Task Panes

How do I make these things go away permanently? I close
them, and even uncheck them, but when Office reopens, so
do the task panes. Thoughts?

You can turn off the "Startup" task panes in some applications, but you
cannot disable the task panes entirely, as they expose functionality which
isn't available elsewhere (E.g. help).

As Eric pointed out the Task Pane can not be permanently disabled but
you can tame it. :)

It sounds like it is still appearing at startup even though you have
elected to turn it off under Tools/Options/View. If that is the case
then here is an article that contains an add-in you can download to
help you control it:
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/ShowTaskPane.htm

If you want to see little of it as possible then you want: Turn off
"Show task pane at startup" and turn on "Hide task pane after opening
or creating a document".

Note the add-in is available for Word and Excel only.

Tools>Options>View>Show>Uncheck "Startup Task Pane"

The other Modules i.e. Excel, Access etc., have to be separately
de-selected.
