Office 2k7 install after O2k7 Beta - puke

OS: Windows XP SP2
06/06 -- installed Office 2007 Beta
sometime later -- installed o2k7 Beta TR
12/06 -- trying to install O2k7 Pro Plus release version
When I tried the first time, received the (grumble) error: "Setup is
unable to procedd due to the following error(s): The 2007 Microsoft
Office system does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of
the 2007 Microsoft Office system. You must first uninstall any
prerelease versions of the 2007 Microsoft Office system products and
associated technologies. Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run
setup. (ok)

I used add/remove to uninstall o2k7 beta. Same error. Disabled
Blackberry desktop manager, removed everything that was an office or
outlook plug-in (adobe pdf maker, snag-it, etc. etc), and even "cleaned
up" the registry. Still cannot install. Clicked heels three times and
said, "there's no place like home".

Installed o2k3 just so I could limp along. I can't find anything on
Microsoft's site about this error or any hopeful solutions to this
problem. Anyone else have any issues? I'm utterly steamed that the
install can't detect and gracefully uninstall pre-release versions of
o2k7 and install this, good grief.

So, anyone have any ideas? experiences similar? suggestions?
