I am unable to install 2k7 pro plus to a windows xp pro machine on my domain.
I have attempted to install from group policy, a network share, a local
directory, and from the cd. Each time the install fails with

What is the exact error when it fails as shown on your screen. Not in the Event Viewer

Peter,
Most of the time there is no error at all, when attempting to install from a
local folder, network share, or cd the install starts, gets one green tick in
the bar, then backs that one out and just closes the window.

Have you tried in Administrative mode. Was another version of Office installed before.

Hi Peter,
This was a clean image on the machine with no other office software installed.
Have even tried logging in locally as administrator instead of loggin into
domain.
Now I see that I have 2 more machines doing the same thing, however 4
machines in the same room with the same hardware and OS and software installs
are just fine.. Very puzzleing???

Tried a few more things on this problem, including,,, Removed GPO link that
was trying to install software from GP. Removing all registry and installer
items dealing with MS OFFICE.
Still no luck.

Just out of curiosity Larry. The CD rom that you are using was purchased from where. Does it have a MS hologram on the CD

Hi Peter,

I even took the machine completely off the domain yesterday and tried toinstallwith the same results.. Driving me nuto !!!!!

I'm having the same issue. On a clients' computer, quite a while ago,
they requested an upgrade to office 2007 from 2003. I attempted to
install, however, something happened during our install.. our crappy
"patchlink" agent rebooted the machine mid-install, and any subsequent
attempts to install office 2007, fail miserably with the especially
useless microsoft error "Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus
Encountered an Error During installation" . Visits to the event
viewer always shows Source: MsiInstaller eventID: 11708 Microsoft
Office Shared MUI (ENGLISH) 2007 installation - operation failed.

So...
I looked up other with the problem of just installing Office 2007, and
followed an MS article instructing to delete like a million "office12"
directories.. and a million other registry keys with "0ff1ce" in the
name.

I followed this walkthrough, still no luck...
So, decided to remove Office 2003.. which complained and gave Office
Source Engine errors upon uninstall, but, it was installed.

Rebooted again, attempted to clean up directories left over and
install office 2007. Same error...

Though maybe reinstalling Office 2003 would help..

installed it, tried upgrading again. No luck.

I would guess.. that somewhere in the registry, this Office Shared
MUI, has a registry key with permissions that are somehow hos0red.
unfortunately, I can't find which reg key it is.

I'm done with this one. Going to re-image this thing. I give up.
