Office 97,2000,XP OEM Upgrade options

First question, can I upgrade an OEM office suite?

Second, I have several office xp sbe oem systems that now need powerpoint and access, is there a cross-grade product available? What are my options?

Thrid, If I choose to go to office 2003, can I upgrade office 97?

Finally, I am confused with the suites available. I know that office 97 sbe and 2000 sbe have publisher, did xp sbe include publisher? I am getting mixed answers....

Does xp pro include publisher?

Depends - was it a separate disc or amalgamated into the OS? If the former,
yes, if the latter, no (IIRC).

What are my options?

There are no cross-grades. If you need to add applications you have two
choices - purchase the full versions of each application you wish to add, or
the full version of the suite (assuming you have no qualifying product)

Yes you can.

I'm confused too - you say you have several systems with XP SBE already
installed, so surely you can answer your own question...?

Does xp pro include publisher?

No retail version of Office XP includes Publisher (save the Special Edition,
which was available for about six months or so after it was launched).

If you're confused about what comes in each edition of Office 2003, I don't
blame you one bit. It was hard enough to keep track before, but now with
Microsoft declaring everything that comes off the docks in Redmond some new
piece of "Office", things are murkier than ever. Here's the official line.
And note that FrontPage, OneNote, SharePoint, Project, Visio, Live Meeting,
and Live Communications Server are not included - though they all carry the
"Office" moniker.

Hi G.,

You can use OEM Office copies as qualifiers for
a newer (numbered) edition of MS Office, you are
not limited to upgrading to the like edition of
the newer version (i.e. you can choose a newer
edition with more or fewer Office apps than your
older one). Office 97, 2000 and XP/2002 work
for Office 2003 editions. Office 97 & 2000 work
for Office XP upgrade editions.

MS does not support using an upgrade edition for
a cross grade (i.e.you can't use upgrade Powerpoint 2002
to add to Office XP/2002).

MS Office XP Professional retail edition did not include
MS Office Publisher 2002 (there was an OEM only
edition of MS Office XP Professional+Publisher).

MS Office 2003 Professional
does include MS Publisher 2003
