office 97 and xp pro

I have a new machine do to a crash, and it has xp pro on it. I loaded my old office 97 and all seemed to go well. It shows in the start/programs/ms office. However, when i go to open word, it just fades away and nothing happens. I have reinstalled a couple of times, and ran set up a couple times. The only way I can get word to open is to leave the CD in
Any suggestion and directions appreciated. I downloaded the latest service pak for office 97 and no change

Sounds like during setup it may have been set to "Run from
CD" instead of "Run all from my computer"
