Office 97/empty "my network places"

When the user attempts to do and "open" in any of the
Office 97 apps, if they click on "my network places" there
is nothing listed there at all. The "places" are
definitely there and this is easily verified by double-
clicking "My Network Places" on the desktop and they are
all listed there but do NOT show up in File/Open/My
Network Places.
