office 97, hard disk search failed. what does this mean?

i tried to install Office 97 onto my computer and received a message that
says Hard Disk Search failed. What does this mean and can I safely install
this program? I need excel for a class i'm taking.

I suspect it's part of the same issue.

Nest...Excel 97 may not suit the needs of the class you are taking. Have you
notified your instructor that this is what you have?
