Office 97 installation

I got a newer computer with Windows 2000 Pro installed.
When I attempt to install my copy of MS Office 97 Pro I
get error messages and the setup is aborted. The messages
read: "Cannot read from device." and "There is insufficent
memory or disk space to Run Setup."
I have downloaded all the Win 2000 updates from the MS
support site, tried running the CD in another computer
with Win XP Home edition with success (so I know the CD is
OK) and tried to copy the contents of the CD to a desktop
folder to install from the HD without success (Got error
message: Cannot copy file: Cannot read from the source
file or disk).
I am able to run other applications from the CD drive on
the new computer with no problem and I tried running the
CD in my computer at work that also has Win 2000 Pro and
got exactly the same error messages. (that should mean the
CD drive in the new computer is OK)
I think there is a conflict between this version of MS
Office and Win 2000 Pro because I have installed this CD
on computers running Windows 95, 98se, and XP home ed and
it has worked OK.
Any suggestions to work around this problem would be
appreciated

I have W2kPro on my computer (configuration is listed on my Video
page at http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith) and installed Office 97
with no problems at all, so I don't think there is any "generic"
problem with the combination

What might be specific to your computer... I have no idea

If you cannot copy the CD to the HD, that indicates that there is a bad spot
on the CD. Try cleaning the CD.

If the CD is marginal, you *may* be able to read it on another computer
(i.e. copy to HD). If so, this would probably be a good time to make a
"backup" of the CD.

HTH,
Tore.
