Office 97 not functioning

My office 97 programs have all suddenly developed gremlins
and all that has been installed is the patches from the
Microsoft update site. Office is run from a network server
running Windows 2000 server and the local machines are
running Windows 98 and Windows 2000. The programs affected
are Excel, Access and Powerpoint.
