Office 97 on Windows XP???

Help! I am DESPERATE! I try to load my Office 97 disk
onto my new XP computer and it thinks it's an UPDATE disk
instead of the whole original package! (I've loaded
Office already twice, on one computer with Windows 95 and
another with Windows 98 -- this is NOT just an "upgrade"
disk!) I can't afford to buy a newer version of Office
for a while, but I have to be able to use it! If I can't
somehow "trick" this new computer into loading it or
recognizing it, I have to take the whole computer back
and buy something else.

Help!!

Then the other two systems must have a qualifying product already installed.
I have never come across a situation where the status of a product changes
between operating systems. If you no longer have the original qualifying
product that you used to install Office originally, then you are no longer
licensed to use the application then you must either hunt for the original
qualifying product or upgrade if you still wish to use Office.

I'd be interested to know what the "something else" would be...your only
other choice would be a Mac and you cannot install Office 97 on a Mac. I
don't know a species of computer that isn't sold with some form of Windows
XP these days...
