office 97 opens 2 document error

Both Excel and Word 97 installed on XP causes this error. When I start the
app by double clicking a file (x.doc or x.xls) or even just selecting a
shortcut, the app (or is it XP) tries to open the file twice. Word gives me
the error message: File in use by Dan, would you like to open a copy. Excel
gives the error: workbook already open, cannot open two workbooks with the
same name.

I would like to stop this behavior.

Found the solution. Need to reregister the applications presumably to correct
a registration error during installation.

For Word:

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button
2. Choose Run
3. Type "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.Exe" /regserver

For Excel:

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button
2. Choose Run
3. Type "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.Exe" /regserver
