Office 97 "saving to more that one floppy disk"

D

Dave

I have found a problem when trying to save a file to a
floppy disk, then removing that disk, inserting a new
disk, then trying to save the file again. The drive does
not see a new disk and will not save. If I change the
file name, it will allow me to save, but you can not save
the same file on more than one floppy. Is there a fix to
this, or a patch?
Thanks

Hi Dave,

The 'problem' is due to the temp files the applications create. I'm
surprised you haven't encountered corrupt files since you are removing
the floppy before the file is closed.

Especially in Word. It needs the source document available when
closing in order to clean-up the temp files. What you are doing is a
primary cause for document corruption when working directly off of
floppies.

It's not recommended to work directly off a floppy in Office
applications due to the temp files that are created. Instead, you
should copy the closed files from the Windows Explorer.

couldn't you close the file and re-open and then save to
diskette?
It's a bother, but it could be a way around that problem.

Saving directly to a floppy disk from Office programs is a recipe for
disaster by potentially causing the document to be unreadable at the
next session. For your own sake and safety of your document please save
to the harddrive and then copy to the floppy disk.
