Office 97 - should it be able to move to new computer ?

Milly and Perdita seem to understand Office, albeit in
different style. Perhaps you could give me a minute ?

I am trying to move all my apps - including Office 97 -
from old IBM laptop (Windows 98) to new computer (Windows
XP). I have the original Office 97 disc & properly
registered, and licence says I can re-use for myself, but
when I try to reinstall it keeps telling
me that the Office 97 version I have is an "upgrade
version" [which it was not] and it cannot find
a "qualifying product" on the new PC [true, by
definition!].

Someone suggested pointing the wizard back to the Office
97 disc, but that does not work either.

Any good ideas ?
