office 97 upgrade install

I'm trying to load an older version of Office 97 into a
Windows 98 operating system on a laptop I have. I am
getting an error at the end of installation which
reads "brdrintl.dll was unable to register itself in the
system registry"...installation of office was not
successful. As soon as I remove the CD none of the
applications will run. Any suggestions on resolving this
issue? I have tried to do it several times & keep getting
the same error.
