Office 97 upgrade to Works

I have an Office 97 upgrade and a office xp upgrade. The
website says I should be able to upgrade any version of MS
works to 97 and once installed I could then upgrade the
products on the 97 upgrade to xp. However the 97 upgrade
won't upgrade my recently bought laptop which has the
latest version of works available in UK. Am I wrong and I
simply can't upgrade?

Well you cannot upgrade from the latest prod.version (Works) to an old
version (Office97).
Theres also no need to go through two versions to upgrade; ie if you have a
qualifying product for OfficeXP, simply point XP to it when installing - no
need to go frm whatever to O97, then OXP, and no need to have QP installed.
BTW the QP is part of the Licence for the upgrade version
