Office 97 - Windows XP compatability

I have updated from Windows 98 to XP. I have uninstalled
and reinstalled Office 97. When I launch Word, the
computer mysteriously converts it to Access.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do
to prevent it.

When you say you "Launch Word, the computer mysteriously converts it to
Access" are you saying that you've clicked on the Word icon and Access
launches instead?

If so, what happens if you click START | RUN and type Winword.exe and hit
enter?
