Office 97 with Win XP

Hello

I get two annoying popups one with Word & one with Excel

Word tells me that "<file>.doc is being used by <me>. Do you want to make a
copy?"

Excel tells me "A document with the <file>.xls is already open. You cannot
open two documents with the same name even if the documents are in different
folders. To open the second document either close the document that is
currently open or rename one of the documents"

In both cases I am the only user on this computer and even though I have no
Word or no Excel files open these messages popup whenever I try to open a
Word file or an Excel file.

Can someone please yell me how to get rid of the popups?

You might want to try re-registering Word and Excel to recreate the
file associations. Go to Start/Run and run the following:

winword /r
excel /regserver
powerpnt /regserver
msaccess /regserver

Note that there is a space before the forward slash.

Thank you Beth, that did the trick. I'll keep a note of what to do if it
happens at some future time
