Office 97 & XP - Insufficient Disk Space

D

Dan

This has me headscratching -

Installed XP Pro (clean - fresh-formatted drive)
Office 97 from CD, setup errors out:
"Insufficient disk space or memory - needs 5000kb <yadda
yadda>"
Click OK, dumps out.

This is a 1.3 Gig Athelon, 40 Gig drive
(3 partitions, C:=10 gig, @8 gig unused, D: and E: are @
15 gig each)

256 M RAM.

Confirmed plenty of diskspace and RAM available.

CD Running as Drive F:

Nothing tweeked during XP set up.

This is 1 computer on a 4 computer LAN, others running
Win98SE (should not be an issue, but....)

(This worked just fine with same configuration with this
computer running Win98SE)

Have installed 1 other program from CD (Quicken 2003), and
1 program from file (Pegasus 4.x), so permissions are OK.
Running as Admin.

Am told others do not have this issue (install off a
network, although "Outlook 97 isn't compatable with XP" -
<I wouldn't know, haven't got that far>)

Found no help in the Knowledge Base, alas, though a clue
as to the inf file and associated table file needs 8-char
filename, but since the install is off a CD, one would
think those haven't changed - can't find those files on
the hard drive, assume the info pertains to the CD then.

Any ideas on how to get Office 97 to install?
