Is it possible to install Office 97 on Windows XP Home
safely without creating problems?

It will work. There are no major safety issues.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

It won't blow up the computer or reformat the harddrive if that's what
you mean about "safety problems".

Didn't ask a specific enough question. I've been told
that installing a program as old as Office 97 on XP might
cause some shared files (.dll ?) to be replaced and
therefore files important for current operations would be
lost. Any truth to this possibility?

For me, 97 worked flawlessly on XP for about a year (then upgraded to
2003 with no problem). Go back to the people who told you this and ask
them to be specific about their concerns. (Hint: there is no problem
.... they don't know what they are talking about).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
