Hi Rick,
JE McGimpsey is right on the money with his advice. Office 98 does work
in Classic with OSX. Office 98 had some features that never made their
way into later versions - particularly the ability to use VBA with MS
Query for database feature such as automation and data binding control.
On the other hand, there have been thousands of other new features and
tweaks made to the rest of office. So if you haven't a need for Open
Database Connectivity automation then I think you would enjoy taking
Office 2004 for a test drive.
You can try 2004 for free by visiting
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/
My bet is that you will become hooked on Office 2004. Office 98 and
Office 2004 can be installed on the same machine and will live happily
together. If you install Office 2004 after you install Office 98 then
MacOS will use Office 2004 as the default application when you
double-click document icons.
