Office 98 for Mac won't launch

I recently updated to Mac OS 9.2 but had to go back OS 9.1
because of a software conflict. Now Office 98 won't launch
(even with Extensions turned off) and I get this error
message, "Unexpected critical error: can't start program."
I downloaded and installed updaters but no luck. Has anyone
got a suggestion for me? Thanks much for any help.
