Office and Vista

DG

We are currently using Microsoft Office 2000 Pro on Windows 2000 Pro and XP
Pro but we need to replace one of our computers and the new one would come
with Vista. Can we use Office 2000 on Vista? A quick Google search yielded
some discussion on problems with Outlook 2000 and Vista (address book??).
If Office 2000 is not compatible with 64-bit Vista Pro, which version of
Office would be best suited for use with all three operating systems? (2000
Pro, XP Pro, and 64-bit Vista Pro).

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Sorry, correction - it's not Vista Pro, the new computer would have Vista
Business edition.

Office 2000 is not supported on Windows Vista - only Office 2003 and 2007 are supported.

Hi Milly

According to MS it is supported (Office 2000 and etc ) with the exception of Outlook which has the wab.dll issue.
There is a workaround for this wab.dll issue though

< snip from below KB>
**Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Office XP, Microsoft Office 2003, and the 2007 Microsoft Office suites are all supported on Windows Vista. The 2007 Office suites were extensively tested on Windows Vista for best compatibility.**

BUT, the article goes on to say:

"Because Office 2000 and Office XP are in Extended Support, there have
been no fixes for issues that occur when these products are run on
Windows Vista. For more information about the support policy status on
these versions and on other versions of Office, visit the following
Microsoft Web site:"

Meaning anything that you find that doesn't work the way you expect will
NOT be considered for fixing.

Hi Bob I

Yes that is correct and very applicable what is printed . I am just pointing out that Office 2000 is supported on Vista by MS to work if someone wants and install it. Aside from this thread I always said the same as Milly (in which she is correct) that other versions of Office will work but with issues.
Only versions 2003 and 2007 will work without issues in Vista. But other versions and suites will also work but may have certain issues.

Hi Peter,

I am glad you are back and feeling much better. My only thought was to
include the disclaimer section, as when most people read that something
is "supported", it means to them that it works without issues. So to me
the use of the word supported in the article is not truly "supported"
but rather meaning you can install it if you wish. If you follow my
meaning.
