Office Applications Freeze On First Run

Sam

Hello there i am new to the forum, i have multiple instances where my
customers will come into work in the morning and they will boot up there
machine and try to open an office 2007 application how ever it freezes for
around 2 - 3 minutes, and then it comes good and you will not see it freeze
for the rest of the day ( Unless the machine is re-booted) can anyone shed
some light on the situation.

Cheers

Are they waiting until all of the services on the machine are started
and it's at "steady state" (so to speak) waiting for them to do
something? Perhaps it's still busy booting when they try to start
Office?

What anti-virus software are you using? Have you looked at MSCONFIG to
see what else might be starting up at the same time?

In addition to Ben's suggestions ...

Are they on a network?

Are they storing documents on the network?

At the point where they start the Office app, do they have access to the
network drives where the docs are stored?

Some (many? all?) Office apps check for the availability of each file on the
Recent Documents menu. That takes a fraction of a second for local files but
it can take a very long time per file to check files on a network drive when
the network's not available.

Hello Thank you for both your responses, they have network activity, we are
running F-Prot Anti Virus, i have tried turning off F-Prot then running the
office app, now i have also been to msconfig and disabled everything in the
startup, i have not touched many of the services, the only way i got the
office application to open in a timely fashion (first run) was to do a
msconfig and to choose diagnostic startup.

Hello Sam..

Did you found the solution to this problem.. I have several computers
with this problem. I have F-Prot antivirus too. The only why to
prevent this to happen in more computers I stop all updates for office
2007. But the other computers that have this problem I can't fix
them...Please let me know if you found the solution. Thank you.
