I am having a problem with Office applications opening
slowly (very slowly) when I click on a shortcut to a
specific file. My environment is Windows XP, office
2000SR1, Dell 2.4ghz. The files are on a local drive
(not network) environment
When I open an application (MS Word or Excel) first then
do File>Open>'filename' the application loads the
requested file and starts almost immediately. However,
if I click on the filename (app not running) it takes
about 1 minute and sometimes more to start the app and
load the requested file. This occurs also when I create
a document shortcut on my desktop. It does not matter
which Office app I do this with the results are the same.
What am I doing wrong or missing. A similarly configured
laptop does not have this problem. Is this a file type
relationship issue?
Any help greatly appreciated.
