Office applications open slowly

One of our people is using Office 97 on Win2K. Sometimes
when he boots the PC then tries to open Word or Excel, it
takes several minutes for the application to open.
Usually if he re-boots the PC, the applications then open
right away. Other times, they open up immediately the
first time he turns on the PC. There doesn't seem to be
any pattern to this, either. Could there be a malware
problem, or what? Would re-installing Office be a
solution? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

yes, could be malware. check it out. also check if the anti-virus
package, e.g. norton, is interferring.
