Office Applications Stop Responding when browsing network drives

One of the users is experiencing a problem where Office applications freeze
up when browsing files on the network drives. They start browsing folders to
a certain level then the application will just stop responding. Office 2003
with SP2 is installed on the machine.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

This is not a problem due to the network drives being unavailable. At the
time all network drives were available and other people in the office could
access them and browse folders on them from Office applications.

Hi,

It can't be related to permissions I have just found out that this is
happening with local folders on the C drive such as My Documents. Sorry for
saying originally that it was when browsing network drives, it is now
happening with all the folders.

Then I would lean to the content. Is the user viewing thumbnails? Is the
user keep lots of "video" or "images" in the problem directories?

I have managed to resolve the problem. It was due to old network drive
mappings for which the server is no longer on the network.

Astounding. Sorry if I misled you by suggesting that you
disconnect mapped network drives that weren't available.

Thanks for your help. I tried too many things from the knowledge base with no
success. Your suggestion fixed my problem. A memory card on a disconnected
drive.
