Office Applications Stop Responding when font changed

I have just installed Office 2000 Professional SR-1 on my
new PC running Windows XP Pro.

Whenever I try to change the font or font size in a
document containing bulleted pointed lists, the
application stops responding. This applies to both Word
and Powerpoint.

I have downloaded Office Service Pack 3 and reinstalled
Office but both without effect.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
