Office applications won't start on my MAC

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hi I have recently purchased MS Office for Mac 2008. WHen I have finished installing it, I click on the WORD or Excel icon, but the office assistant loads up and I get that "customer experience improvement program" box pop up. When I close it, I do NOT get into WORD or excel.

What is happening here? Please advise if you can
