Office apps keep hanging with eventid 1002 - N/W drives fine

I have a client with a new PC which keeps hanging on office applications, (4
to 5 times a day). Everything else is working fine, locally and on the
network. There are no other network issues logged, and he has no disconnected
drives. I've been through the app and system logs and can't find anything
that looks like a possible cause, just the 1002 error eg.
Hanging application WINWORD.EXE, version 10.0.6764.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Hanging application POWERPNT.EXE, version 11.0.6361.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Any help much appreciated
