Office apps quit after install

Just got Office 2004 out of the box, did a custom install (only needed Word,
Powerpoint & Excell) installation is successful. Howwever when I go to open
any of the programs they quit before they have fully launched.

Tried a full re-install, but still keeps happening, any thoughts? I am running
OS X (10.3.4) on a Dual Processor 2 Ghz PowerMac G5.

Try Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) BEFORE and AFTER any
system upgrade as well as BEFORE and AFTER installing any software that uses
an installer.

I know it sounds like OS X voodoo, and it is; but it fixes and prevents a
bunch of problems.

Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily,
weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended, run
Cocktail (shareware) as well.

Just had the same problem myself and it's taken a while to
sort.

1. Start by removing what you have just installed, this
includes any old version of Office (as far back as Office
98). Use the "Remove Office" app in your Additional Tools
Folder.

2. Open "Font Book" and turn off ALL fonts, this will
leave only system fonts running.

3. Boot up using OS x 10.3 cd1, run "Disk Utility"
and "repair your disk" and rebuild permissions".

4. Now reboot your system and install Office again, do a
full install NOT a custom install, you want office to ask
for "product to upgrade, will ask you later (or something
like that)".

5. Now try launch and cross your fingers!

Hope this helps, it worked for me.

I've done everything I can think of (ran scripts, killed prefs, reinstalled, fixed
permissions, etc.), yet office apps continue to quit on launch just before
they are finished starting. Any new suggestions?

You haven't mentioned troubleshooting fonts. Nor that you reinstalled
after uninstalling using the Remove Office app. Not sure what scripts
you ran.
