Office apps shut down when I click on menus

Suddenly whenever I click on any of the menu bar selections (i.e. File, Edit,
View, Insert, Tools, etc.) in Word or Office (and probably the other Office
2003 apps) I get the message that the application has encountered a problem
and must shut down. I'm up-to-date on Microsoft and Office Update. I've
tried Start> Run> winword /a so I can open in troubleshoot mode but the
problem still occurs. I've tried renaming my Normal.dot file but that does
not fix the problem either.

Can someone please help?

Gina,

Try Detect & Repair by going to Help, Detect & Repair i.e. if you can
click on Help Menu item.

Alternatively, try Alt+H to get drop down help menu. Then click on down
arrow icons to get full sub menu items or just use down-arrow keys to
avoid a crash). You will see Detect and Repair item somewhere in the
middle.

See if this solves the problems. Let us know what happens

I tried both methods, but was shut down immediately on both tries.

Any other suggestions?
