Office apps take forever to quit

A very strange problem...all my Office X apps, Entourage, Word, Excel,
Powerpoint, everything, take over a minute to quit, sometimes over two
minutes. I tried to reinstall but the CD says no installation is necessary
and the problem persists. I do not have this problem with Explorer or any
other application. Running an 800MHz G4 iMac with 512MB RAM and Panther.

I think it's time to repair permissions in disk utility.

Have you applied the updates at

Prior to SR-1, the anti-piracy method would hang up Office apps
until a network timeout occurred, usually after about 1 minute.

I have the same problem in Panther that I had in 10.2.6 - Word, Excel,
Powerpoint and Entourage refuse to quit. I have to force quit every time. I
have reinstalled Office X from the CD and then installed the updates, right
up to Office 10.1.5

I cannot shut down my Mac without force quitting all office apps that are
running Most annoying.

I have a G4 titanium laptop running Panther.

I have the same problem in Panther that I had in 10.2.6 - Word, Excel,

If any of you all are running Norton Personal Firewall, try turning off
Stealth Mode. The incompatibility is fixed in the latest version of
Personal Firewall, 3.0.
