Office Apps won't launch in OS X after running Font Reserve

I'm running (trying to, that is) Office v.X in OS 10.2.6 -- problem is that
when I try to open any Microsoft app I get the splash screen and then
"Application has unexpectedly quit". This also happens with IE as well. Note
that I can open Entourage, but once I view any message in the view pane it
quits. I notices once I turned off the view as HTML, I didn't have the
problem.

I'm almost 99% certain it's a font issue -- here's the background...

I installed all MS apps on my laptop, and they were running fine. At that
point all fonts were installed in their respective folders in OS X. I then
installed Font Reserve and ran the Font Handler app which takes all
'uneccessary' fonts and puts them in one central location (the Vault).
That's when the trouble started. Since then I've been trying to get all my
MS apps to work with no avail.

Note that all my other apps run fine -- though my Macromedia apps quit from
time to time when using the font pulldowns -- again some sort of font issue.

I contacted Font Reserve support which wasnt much help -- I've viewed every
relevant MS knowledge base article which hasn't helped. Ive tried everything
from discarding prefs, reactivating every microsoft font, and installed the
latest updates of both Office and OS X - nothing. I don't believe it is a
corrupted font since everything worked fine before I ran the font management
software.

I'm truly at my wits end. My only other thought is to unistall Office and
reinstall (if I can figure out how to that) Fortunately my main computer is
still running OS9 so I can get work done, but my migration to OS X has been
rocky, and I'd like to resolve this before switching any other systems to OS
X.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is crazy!

Thanks in advance.

Two things come to mind: messed up privileges or necessary fonts for
Office are missing.

Have you run the Repair Privileges function of Disk Utility? That may help.

If Repair Privileges doesn't do the trick, then put all your fonts back
into the folders that Font Reserve took them from, disable the Font
Reserve database, and see if Office restarts.

Speaking of the Font Reserve database, it is enabled, right? I only
mention this because I have neglected to turn it back on only to be
blessed with a multitude of errors that didn't need to happen. :)

You might also want to read the technology brief and document that Apple
created in explaining their font management strategy. Here's the link:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75494

I read it and put the information into good use by changing how I use
Font Reserve.

Hope this helps.
