Office assistant crashes Office 200 programs.

I'm using WinXP with Office 2000, and have Access97
installed. In Office 2000 I can't get the Office
Assistant to appear - the program crashes. Microsoft KB
article 228684 assumes that I have Publisher 2000, but I
don't. Resetting Office Assistant to "Run from my
computer" in Office tools does not help.

(The Assistant in Access 97 works fine.)

Any ideas? I hate to admit it, but I miss the damn cat.

If you are using an Office 97 assistant with Office 2000, it does not work.
You will have to use the Office 2000 assistants and remove the Office 97
ones.

Thanks, Milly - but no luck! I have now tried removing
Access97 - the only Office97 program I use - and
reinstalling it without the Assistant. After that, I
reinstalled Office 2000. Then, hey presto! I
selected "Show Office Assistant" and it crashed again...
