Office Assistant missing

Rolf Barbakken

I have installed Office 2003 with some parts of Office XP still in place
(Word, shared features). The Office Assistant is available in Outlook 2003,
but not in any of the other 2003-apps. I get an error stating no assistants
are installed - please add assistants through add/remove programs.

But they are all there! Running add/remove makes no difference and I still
get the error in Excel 2003, Word 2003, Powerpoint 2003...

Whats wrong? Fixable without having to reinstall everything?

If you use Add/Remove and select Office 2003, under the Office Tools, does
it show the Office Assistants installed or not? If not, install them.
There may be a disconnect between Office XP and 2003.

They appear installed. Just to be sure I uninstalled all assistants from
2003 and reinstalled them, but I still have no assistants.

We had the same problem on two computers and fixed it by running add/remove
again, setting one of the assistants to "installed on first use" and doing
at least one other change - like adding fonts or "System Information". After
this everything worked.

Not elegant, but solved.
