Office Assistant/Office Detect and Repair

I don't know if I have one problem or two. First of all
when I start any office application, the office assistant
starts which is new since I disabled it long ago. But then
it dies and I get a message that says "The office
assistant has stopped responding. To display the
Assistant again, click 'Show the office assistant' on the
Help menu". If I try to use the office assistant it runs
for about 10 seconds and dies. With the same result.

Also when I try to run Detect and repair in any office
application, I get a "Windows Installer" message that says
"Incorrect command line parameters"

and then the detect and repair terminates.

Added information to the first posting below. I am
running Windows/Office XP Professional.
I have tried to re-install Office
I have tried to turn off the office assistant and I get a
message back that says "Unable to turn off office
assistant at this time"
