Office Assistant

I'm really sick of this problem as it has persisted for months now and the IT
people don't have any suggestions.

At random, when I load Word or Excel I get the message, "There are no Office
Assistant character files present on the system. Please run Setup in
maintenance mde and install at least one character.". Needless to say, once
the message appear there is no office assistant.

Also, when it does work, the office assistant frequently defaults back to
the generic assistant rather than the one last chose. Obviously this is a
secondary issue, as any office assistant is better than none.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the IT people to pursue?

Do you have mixed versions of Office applications? That really causes
problems with the Office assistant.

Dear Bob,

Yes I have Word 2002 and Outlook 2003 (Outlook was the only program that was
up-graded). No one else in the office (same server) seems to be having this
problem.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried disabling Assistant in Outlook?
