Office Assistants from MS Agent Ring not working

M

MelPhleg

Win vista home; office xp pro.
followed instructions for 'Help Installing Characters' on MS character ring
(http://www.msagentring.org/chars.aspx ), but it wouldn't copy the asc file.
always came up with "an error occcured while copying file *.acs. cannot copy
file to destination directory. click retry to retry the operation or cancel
to (no further text)."

i can click retry all i want, but still does nothing and pops up with the
error message.
i click on cancel. it pops up with "do you want to continue setup without
copying this file?"
if i click yes, it pops up with "installation failed." i click ok, and it
pops up with " the *.acs character has been installed to your msagent/chars
folder." ha-ha. nothing there.
if i click no, and it only pops up with "the *.acs character has been
installed to your msagent/chars folder." still nothing there.

now what?
any ideas out there?

Hi MelPhleg,

You may want to use the link below to post this in the MS Agent discussion group as well. The instructions on
http://www.msagentring.org/charsinstall.aspx
were written for Windows 2000/XP to copy the .ACS (actor) files once downloaded to your computer. There may be differences in the
MS Agent engine working on Vista or on the permissions needed for the folders.
